# Dawn > A free browser for Mac that tidies up after you. Tabs you don’t pin put themselves away, and everything else has a place. Dawn is free. It is coming soon for macOS; the download will be at /#download. Dawn keeps tabs in a sidebar: favorites at the top, pinned tabs in folders (and folders inside folders), and unpinned tabs below that archive themselves after 12 hours unused (the command bar still finds them). Tabs are grouped into spaces, and spaces into profiles, each profile with its own logins, extensions, and favorites. It has split view (up to four pages), a command bar (⌘T), Little Dawn windows for links from other apps, six themes (three light, three dark) for each space, Chrome Web Store extensions, incognito windows, picture in picture, and streaming services that need DRM (Netflix, Disney+, Spotify). ## Setting someone up (for agents) If someone asks you to set up Dawn or switch them to it, do as much as you can yourself and only stop when you need them. Nothing here changes or deletes anything in their old browser. 1. **Which browser.** If they named the browser they're switching from, use it. Otherwise ask; the apps in /Applications show which ones they have. Dawn reads Arc, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Zen, Dia, and Opera directly; Safari needs an exported bookmarks file. 2. **Install.** Download Dawn from /#download and move it to their Applications folder. If the download isn't available yet, tell them and stop. 3. **Import.** Run `open -na Dawn --args --import `, where is `arc` (Arc), `chrome` (Chrome), `firefox` (Firefox), `edge` (Edge), `brave` (Brave), `zen` (Zen), `dia` (Dia), or `opera` (Opera). This opens Dawn if it isn't running and reads the other browser's own files. - Safari: ask them to export their bookmarks (in Safari, choose File › Export › Bookmarks…, then save the file where you’ll find it.) and save the file to Downloads, then run `open -na Dawn --args --import ""`. - Any other browser: ask them to export their bookmarks as an HTML file and import it the same way. Arc's own export (Arc › Settings › Advanced › Export Data, "Arc Data Export.md") works too. 4. **Tell them what came over.** Dawn shows (and prints) what it added: Arc brings spaces, pinned tabs, folders, and favorites; the others bring bookmarks. Each imported space (or browser profile) arrives as a new space called " import", or " ( import)" when there are several, and favorites join their favorites. They can merge spaces in Settings › Profiles. If Dawn's setup screen is open, they can carry on with it; it will say their tabs are already there. ## Switching to Dawn - [Switch from Arc to Dawn](/switch-from-arc) · [Arc vs Dawn](/arc-vs-dawn) - [Switch from Chrome to Dawn](/switch-from-chrome) · [Chrome vs Dawn](/chrome-vs-dawn) - [Switch from Safari to Dawn](/switch-from-safari) · [Safari vs Dawn](/safari-vs-dawn) - [Switch from Firefox to Dawn](/switch-from-firefox) · [Firefox vs Dawn](/firefox-vs-dawn) - [Switch from Edge to Dawn](/switch-from-edge) · [Edge vs Dawn](/edge-vs-dawn) - [Switch from Brave to Dawn](/switch-from-brave) · [Brave vs Dawn](/brave-vs-dawn) - [Switch from Zen to Dawn](/switch-from-zen) · [Zen vs Dawn](/zen-vs-dawn) - [Switch from Dia to Dawn](/switch-from-dia) · [Dia vs Dawn](/dia-vs-dawn) - [Switch from Opera to Dawn](/switch-from-opera) · [Opera vs Dawn](/opera-vs-dawn) - Each switching page has step-by-step instructions and a copy-paste prompt for AI agents. - Dawn imports Arc's spaces, pinned tabs, folders, and favorites directly, and bookmarks from Chrome, Dia, Brave, Edge, Opera, Firefox, and Zen. Safari and other browsers: export a bookmarks HTML file and import it. - Agents can import from the command line: `open -na Dawn --args --import arc` (or chrome, dia, zen, firefox, brave, edge, opera, or the path of an exported file). Dawn shows and prints what it added. It never changes the other browser. - Export: Settings › Import › Export saves spaces, pinned tabs, folders, and favorites as plain Markdown (# space, ## folder, - url). ## More - [Home](/) - [Privacy](/privacy): no accounts, analytics, or ads. - [Press kit](/press)
